Gold cross
For many, wearing a gold cross is an outer symbol of an
inner decision to live in accordance to Christian teachings.
In some religions, a priest will sanctify water by immersing within
it a gold cross. It is believed by some that when this is done, the
water becomes holy. There are others who believe that they become holier
by wearing a gold cross.
When one wears a gold cross around his neck, the cross is constantly
in contact with the wearer’s body. Some believe that the touch
of the cross is able to sanctify them and protect them from danger.
In the Russian Orthodox Church, the gold cross is a symbol of conviction
that was worn by believers even during the decades of communist rule
in which religion was mocked and forbidden. For some, there was no way
to go to church to worship, therefore one of the things they did instead
was choose to wear a gold cross.
Many Christians believe that a gold cross should be more of an adornment
to one’s soul than it should be to one’s clothing.
Even though many people choose to show their belief through the wearing
of a gold cross, there are many other kinds of materials from which
the crosses are manufactured. The material from which the cross is made
is not as important for most as the symbolism behind the cross is.
Often one wearing a gold cross feels a kinship to others who wear the
same adornment.
