Just as one handling gold jewelry should do so with care, one cleaning handcrafted gold jewelry must be equally careful. One who will clean handcrafted gold jewelry must:

• Prepare – In order to prepare for the cleaning, one should get a very mild dishwashing detergent that will not pose any risk of stripping away the gold. Then, a bowl should be filled with one to two cups or water, depending on how large the gold jewelry is. Several drops of the detergent should be added and mixed in with the water.

• Clean
– The cleaning process begins when the gold jewelry is placed inside of the solution. One cleaning his or her handmade jewelry should leave the jewelry there for several minutes. After a few minutes, a cleaner should use a soft toothbrush to lightly brush the gold jewelry. Avoid using a toothbrush with hard bristles.

• Remove
– After the gold jewelry has been cleaned, it then can be removed from the solution. Immediately after being removed, the gold jewelry should be rinsed well. If soap stays on the jewelry, mildew could form.

• Polish
– Lastly, after the gold jewelry has been completely dried, it should be polished. A soft 100 percent cotton cloth that is clean is best for polishing gold jewelry.

• Store
– As long as one is sure that the gold jewelry is completely dry, he or she can store the jewelry in a jewelry box until the next time it is used again.
