Because a gold pendant is worth so much more than just the gold to many people, it is important that one choosing to give a pendant as a gift understands all of the things that he or she should look for when giving a gold pendant. Consider these things:

• Birthstones – One of the nicest things to adorn with a gold pendant are birthstones. Some pendants include the birthstone of the month in which the recipient’s birthday is. Still others will include several birthstones that represent the month of each of the birthdays of a woman’s children or grandchildren.

• Look at the gold – All gold is not created equal. In order for one to find out how nice the gold pendant he or she is buying is, he or she can look at the karats of the gold. There should be a small engraving somewhere on the gold pendant that reads something between 10k and 24k.

• Chains – If the gold pendant is being purchased to latch on to a pre-existing chain, perhaps it would be best to make sure that this chain and the pendant match up and are of the same karat of gold.

•Gram weight – In order to make sure that the gold pendant that is being purchased is able to stand up to time, the gram weight should be considered when these pieces of jewelry are purchased. The higher the gram weight is, the stronger and more durable this gold pendant probably will be.
